Outdoor community calendar for Week of Nov. 18
AUDUBON EVENT:
CHAPTER MEETING
WHERE: Taber Museum (858 West Fourth Street in Williamsport)
WHEN: Wednesday, Nov. 19 at 6:30 p.m.
NOTES: Join Lycoming Audubon Society as finch expert Matthew Young introduces us to the 43 finches of the United States and Canada, from feeder-favorite goldfinches to red crossbill tribes, to least known mountain-top black rosyfinches to endangered Hawaiian honeycreepers.
This program is based on the information-backet book “Stokes Guide to Finches of the United States and Canada” by Lillian Stokes, best-selling author of 35 Stokes guides and co-authored by Young.
Learn detailed finch identification, language, behavior, irruptions, specialized maps and foraging charts on crossbills, how to conserve finches and much more.
HOLIDAY WREATHS
WITH PETE GSTALDER
WHERE: Rider Park
WHEN: Sunday, Nov. 30 (1-3 p.m.) and Sunday, Dec. 7 (1-3 p.m.)
NOTES: Rider Park is hosting a event making holiday wreaths twice with Pete Gstalder. Both days are a cost of $20 cash the day of the program. The fee goes towards the material costs and Gstalder’s time. We will be using white pine, spruce, arborvitae, some juniper and seasonal color like red stem dogwood, dried mountain mint flowers and the evergreen leaves of mountain laurel.
We will have two wreath making tables set up. Participants will be asked to assemble eight bunches of materials and then take turns assembling their wreaths.
To register, visit RiderPark.org and look for the event tab. Space is limited to 20 people.
We will meet at the maintenance shed at Rider Park. Directions can be found at RiderPark.org or using the address 1769 Caleb’s Creek Road, Trout Run.
