Fleet management discussion held by city

The city is entertaining using Enterprise as a vehicle fleet management service for public safety departments, including the city police.

Mayor Derek Slaughter and Police Chief Damon R. Hagan said they believe savings can be obtained this way during a Council finance committee meeting.

The average age of police vehicles — sedans and sport utility types — is 10 to 12 years. Annual average mileage is 11,000. Six vehicles are more than 10 years old, said Nicholas Gilbert.

In a sales pitch, the city could see savings of $348,000 spread over the next decade, he said.

“If we choose to use a firm you work with in the event there is damage to a vehicle, would we still get the rates for maintenance for other work on the vehicle and could we coordinate with our insurance?” asked Councilwoman Liz Miele, committee chairwoman.

Gilbert said that would be no problem.

Lycoming County and Williamsport Area School District both use the lease business.

The committee held a discussion and did not take action on the lease concept.

Starting at $3.90/week.
