Summer solstice brings a ‘taste of everything’
The first full week of summer will bring a “taste of everything” including above- and below-normal temperatures and some changes for storms.
“Overall it is going to be a pretty big change in weather,” said Steve Travis, National Weather Service meteorologist.
The solstice took place Sunday at 11:31 p.m., bringing with it hot and humid, summery weather today with highs in the low 90s, which is above normal for this time of year.
“It’s very fitting,” Travis said. “With the heat, it could bring up some thunderstorms.”
Though he believes that Williamsport won’t see any heavy storms, he did suggest watching the weather if anyone had plans to be outside later in the day into the evening, when storms and strong winds may come through. He said the storms could bring a quarter to a half of an inch of rain.
For Tuesday, “we are going to notice a drop in temperatures,” as we are now behind the cold front that brought the storms.
Travis said that the high for Tuesday is below normal for this time of year, in the low 70s.
Wednesday will be a little bit warmer in the mid-70s with low humidity.
“Should be a pretty nice day,” Travis said.
Nearing the end of the week into the weekend, Travis said it will get a little warmer and a little more humid.
The high for Thursday is around 80 with sunny skies and low humidity, and temperatures are expected to continue to rise into the low 80s Friday.
