The Williamsport/Lycoming Chamber of Commerce announced Monday that West Pharmaceutical Services Inc. will expand its Jersey Shore plant and also add 125 new jobs there.
A news release said the development is in addition to news last August that the Williamsport plant would expand with additional job hiring at both Williamsport and Jersey Shore.
The project, pursued in conjunction with Pennsylvania’s state government, brings an investment of more than $65 million to expand the physical footprint of the Jersey Shore plant. This will add another 125 jobs at Jersey Shore to the already 700 jobs it provides in Lycoming County, and more than 1,200 jobs in Pennsylvania.
“West will add a variety of full time and family-sustaining career opportunities with this expansion, including machine operators, procurement and planning specialists, supervisors, engineers, maintenance technicians, and tooling specialists,” the news release said.
“This exciting announcement bolsters the skilled labor force found here in our area,” said state Sen. Gene Yaw, R-Loyalsock Township, according to the news release.
“West Pharmaceutical Services recently broke ground on the Williamsport expansion and is now already moving forward here in Jersey Shore. It’s great to see the partnership of the Williamsport/Lycoming Chamber of Commerce, the Governor’s Action Team, County Commissioners, Jersey Shore Borough and Jersey Shore Area School District who all worked together to secure this for the community,” he said.
“I congratulate West Pharmaceutical Services Inc. for announcing this nearly $70M expansion project which will bring 125 new jobs to the Jersey Shore area,” said state Rep. Joe Hamm, R-Hepburn Township, according to the news release. “Economic growth and job creation are important for our area and are among my top priorities.”
“The Borough of Jersey Shore is excited to see the growth of West Pharmaceutical and its commitment to our community and for providing opportunity to our residents and the surrounding communities,” said Cody Hoover, Jersey Shore borough manager, according to the news release,
“We support and welcome their expansion as a positive addition to our community,” said Brian Ulmer, Jersey Shore Area School District superintendent, according to the news release. “As a comprehensive high school, we look forward to continuing to prepare quality graduates for the work force in support of local industry like West Pharmaceuticals.”
“This was a true team effort at the local, county and state level in landing this West expansion. The Chamber appreciates the assistance that the Commonwealth through the Governor’s Action Team along with the local support Jersey Shore Borough, Jersey Area School District and Lycoming County provided in seeing this expansion occur here,” said Jason Fink, president/CEO, Williamsport/Lycoming Chamber of Commerce, according to the news release.
Partnering together on this project are the Governor’s Action Team, Williamsport/Lycoming Chamber of Commerce, Jersey Shore borough, Jersey Shore Area School District and the Lycoming County commissioners, the news release said.
