Veterans and their families gathered at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Williamsport on Saturday for the Hometown Heroes celebration in honor of Veterans Day. The event was held to retire the past year’s Hometown Hero banners, which grace lightposts on Via Bella in Williamsport, and to dedicate the new ones. Lycoming County commissioner Rick Mirabito and U.S. Rep. Fred Keller, R-Kreamer, were guest speakers. The banners are a project of Lycoming County Hometown Heroes Inc., a nonprofit group organized to recognize the country’s service men and women and to raise money to assist needy veterans and their families, according to a news release.
