Incoming Williamsport city councilman thanks voters for support, looks forward to collaboration
A new face will soon join City Council if the unofficial vote count is confirmed as it came in on Tuesday night.
In the race to fill three open seats, Jonah Milliken, a Democrat, received 2,654 votes while incumbents Liz Miele, a Democrat, received 2,786 votes and Eric Beiter, Republican, garnered 2,409 votes.
Candidate April Line, a Democrat, had 2,397 votes followed by David J. Dussinger, a Republican, with 1,976 votes.
There were 14,817 registered voters and 53 write-in votes, according to Lycoming County Voter Services information.
“In short, I am incredibly grateful for the peoples’ vote,” Milliken said. “It has been a privilege over the last eight months to connect with, listen to, and learn from people in our community. What we have here in Williamsport is special. I feel a sense of pride and protection for it.”
“The challenges that we face in the weeks and months and years ahead are real, but I have confidence in the grit and compassion I have seen from individuals and leaders and groups in our community,” Milliken said.
“I look forward to the privilege of serving alongside the other members of City Council,” he said. “I look forward to collaborating with the city administration and staff, and I look forward to connecting with the people of Williamsport.”
