Mrs. Betty Jane Schwenke

Mrs. Betty Jane Schwenke, 101, of Montoursville, Pa., formerly of South Williamsport, Pa., died Tuesday, March 15, 2022, at Celebration Villa, Montoursville, Pa.

Mrs. Schwenke was the former proprietor of the Knit Knook in Montoursville.

Betty was a Turbot Hills Golf Club member, A.A.R.P., West Branch Sports Hall of Fame, and the Republican Women. In addition, she was a former member of the Faith United Methodist Church, Montoursville.

Mrs. Schwenke was a 1938 graduate of the South Williamsport High School.

Born Sept. 17, 1920, at South Williamsport, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Donald Joseph Wertman and Viola M. Leigh Wertman.

She and her husband, William M. Schwenke, were married on April 20, 1946, and celebrated 55 years of marriage before his death in 2001.

Surviving are a daughter, Canda Leigh Fogarty (Michael) Montoursville, a son, William Dennis (Janis) Schwenke at Point Pleasant, N.J., five grandchildren, Brendan Fogarty(Carly Stancil), Belmont, N.C., Minda Fogarty, Montoursville, Megan Schwenke (Steve Graham), Boston, MA, Joanna Schwenke Earls (Ryan), Boston, MA, and Max Schwenke, Wanamassa, N.J., and one great-grandson, Sullivan J. Earls, Boston, MA.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 21, 2022, at Faith United Methodist Church, 700 Fairview Drive, Montoursville, PA, 17754. Friends will be received on Monday at the Church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. at the Faith United Methodist Church,700 Fairview Drive, with Rev. Dr. Joseph Shimko officiating. Flowers will be provided. The family requests that all attendees please wear a mask and observe COVID-19 safety practices while in attendance. Please use the Brushy Ridge Road Side entrance to park and enter the Church for Visitation and Church Funeral Service attendances.

The family will provide flowers. Contributions in memory of Mrs. Betty Jane Schwenke may be made, if so desired, to the American Heart Association, Lehigh Valley and Northeast Division, 4250 Crum Mills Road, Suite # 100, Harrisburg, PA. 17112 or to the American Parkinson’s Disease Association, Inc., Post Office Box 61420, Staten Island, New York 10306.
