Theresa M. Fruet
Theresa M. Fruet, 96, of Annandale, Va., and formerly of Sherman St., Muncy, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2024, at the home of her daughter in Virginia.
She was the daughter of the late Vincent and Flossie Fuller Simonowicz, born Nov. 1, 1927, in Mount Carmel. She graduated from Mount Carmel High School in 1946 and remained very close to many of her classmates throughout their lives. The group reunited often, and for one last time in 2007 to observe their collective 80th birthdays.
She married the love of her life, Elmer Joseph Fruet, on Nov. 9, 1946, and they celebrated 65 years of marriage together before his death on Feb. 2, 2012.
After World War II, Theresa worked at Martin Marietta in Baltimore, Md., and for many years in Montgomery Mills. She lived most of her adult life loving Muncy, her church and her many friends before she and Elmer relocated to Virginia to be nearer her children and their families.
Over the decades, Mrs. Fruet was revered for her skills in crocheting, completing more than 1,000 beautiful hand-made and unique blankets–all cheerfully donated to various charities, earning her recognition in a special report on a local Washington, D.C. television station. In Muncy, girls learned camping and citizenship skills during many years of her Girl Scouts leadership, accomplished with her close friend, Barb Rager. They emphasized inclusiveness and hard work!
Theresa was a dedicated member for many years of the Church of the Resurrection in Muncy and owes a debt of gratitude to the Clergy, Eucharistic Ministers and staff of St. Ambrose Catholic Church in suburban northern Virginia, who faithfully ministered to her in her final years.
She is survived by two daughters, Dr. Christine Chaisson, of Annandale, Va., and Cindy Hoag, and husband, Christopher, of Annapolis, Md. She also proudly boasted five grandchildren, Alex Hoag, Kathryn Hoag Brunner and husband, Josh, Jennifer Richey, Dr. Neal Chaisson and wife, Annie, and Nathan Chaisson and wife, Lennie. She was especially blessed with eight great-grandchildren, Chase and Coby Richey, Lucy, Joseph, Peter, Daniel, Reese and Sarah Chaisson.
Theresa was a faithful wife, loving mother, doting grandmother, proud great-grandmother, favored aunt and adored friend to many.
Her family, friends, congregations and everyone who was blessed to have known her will greatly miss her inspiration, her smile and her limitless love. Goodbye, Theresa.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on July 13, 2024, at the Church of the Resurrection, 75 Musser Lane, Muncy. The family will receive guests from 10 to 11 a.m. All are invited to the Interment to follow in the Resurrection Cemetery.
The family will provide the flowers and suggests memorial contributions be made to the Marian Homes at www.marianhomes.org. She’ll bless you for being generous. Expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.grenoblefuneralhome.com.
