Nancy Bergesen

Nancy Bergesen passed away at her home in Montoursville at the age of 92.

She was the daughter of Charles H. Becker Sr. and Anne M. Becker, Wilkes-Barre. Nancy is survived by her four children, seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Andreas J. Bergesen; parents, and brother, Charles H. Becker Jr., Airman Second Class.

Nancy graduated from G.A.R High School, earned her RN at Wilkes-Barre General Hosp. School of Nursing, a bachelor’s degree in nursing education from Misericordia University and returned to college in the 1970s for a master’s program.

She taught nursing in Delaware before marrying in 1958 and moving to South Williamsport, where she became the head instructor for Williamsport Hospital School of Nursing. She then served as Director of Nursing at Divine Providence Hospital for 25 years before becoming VP of Nursing at Franklin Hospital until her retirement. Nancy served one term as President of the PA Nurses Association, now the PA State Nurses Association. She was devoted to quality nursing her entire career. Having lost a brother in service, supporting veterans was very important to her. She was a founding charter member of The National WWII Museum.

Any donations in her memory can be sent to a veteran’s organization, e.g. The National WWII Museum, New Orleans, Wounded Warriors or Tunnel to Towers.

All services will be private.
