A rose is a rose by any other name. But that doesn’t hold true for a lie. A lie is a lie.

Consider these lies.

1) Trump won the 2020 election

2) Climate Change is a hoax

3) Common vaccines are linked to autism

4) Haitian Immigrants are eating our cats.

5) Ukraine started the war with Russia

These are lies. If we start calling them by different names, maybe ones not as caustic or upsetting to some, then we run into trouble. Because then we start shrugging them off as “poking fun,” or “politician speak,” or “Trump being Trump,” or “Trump speaking from his gut.”

Nope. A lie is a lie. And if we start to soften up on that simple, foundational understanding, we risk losing everything we hold dear: our democracy, our freedoms, the rule of law, our humanity.

The abyss is calling, friends. A lie must always be called a lie. ‘We The People’ must guarantee that to ourselves.
