Issues, not crises

Here are the issues that Trump says are crisis threatening our country: illegal immigration, unfair tariffs, illegal drugs, and war ravaged cities.

Well, illegal immigration/undocumented workers have been tolerated in this country for decades. Republicans like it because it means cheaper labor. Democrats like it because it means future voters, Consumers like it because it means cheaper prices at the grocery store. So, not a crisis.

Tariffs have been an issue for well over a century. But, since World War II, the US has had the world’s strongest economy and the highest standard of living. Again, an issue, not a crisis.

Illegal drugs are another long standing issue. Probably the most serious issue of the ones I have mentioned. But not the country threatening crisis that Trump says it is.

War ravaged cities? Well, if you are using Trump’s examples of Los Angeles, Portland, or Chicago, then you have been snookered by Trump’s sales pitch. The dancing inflatable frogs should have been your first clue. Another issue that is not a crisis.

So, why does Trump deliberately fan the flames of fear and anger? It energizes his political base and muzzles any opposition from Congressional Republicans. That allows Trump to declare nonexistent national emergencies and claim powers a President would not normally have.
