PSU’s Allen recognized as second-team All-American
STATE COLLEGE — Penn State’s senior running back Kaytron Allen was recognized as a second-team All-American by the American Football Coaches Association on Tuesday.
Allen picked up his second All-American honor this season by an NCAA-recognized outlet (AFCA, Associated Press, FWAA, The Sporting News, Walter Camp Football Foundation). He was tabbed a third-team All-American by the Associated Press on Monday.
Allen joins redshirt junior offensive lineman Olaivavega Ioane among Nittany Lions earning All-American honors this season. Ioane was recognized as a second-team All-American by the Walter Camp Football Foundation on December 13 and by the Associated Press on Tuesday.
Penn State has had an All-American in 53 of the last 59 years. The Nittany Lions have an All-American selection in each of the last five seasons.
Earlier, Allen earned second-team All-American by Associated Press and was tabbed second-team All-American by On3.
On a 3-yard rush in the fourth quarter against Nebraska, Allen (4,180) became the all-time career rushing yards leader at Penn State, passing Evan Royster (3,932; 2007-10). On the day, Allen also moved past Saquon Barkley (3,843; 2015-17).
Against Rutgers, Allen became the 23rd Big Ten player to reach the 4,000 career rushing yards mark and moved into 18th in Big Ten history.
