Local roundup: Muncy’s Ross Eyer grabs 500th career rebound in boys win

Muncy’s Ross Eyer reached a milestone for the Indians as Muncy beat Millville, 89-44, in boys basketball on Tuesday night.

Ross recorded his 500th career rebound while leading the team with a 30-point performance.

Eli Weikel added 22 points and Branson Eyer had 10 points.

The Indians (7-3) scored at least 70 points for the fourth time this season, and second game in a row.

South Williamsport played Sullivan County tough in a 46-40 victory. Lee Habalar scored 13 points and Sequan Roberts chipped in 12. The Griffins were led by both Trey Higley and Bryon Fitzgerald, both of whom scored 12. Higley led the Griffins (3-4) with seven rebounds.

Bucktail edged Benton in a close game, 57-52, in overtime. Dylan Cross had a 20-point performance for the Bucks and Braylon Fantaski added 14. Will Steele contributed 11 for Bucktail.

Josh Heiney enjoyed a career night and erupted for 28 points while helping Hughesville turn a three-point halftime deficit into a 64-48 win at Midd-West. The Spartans scored 27 third-quarter points despite missing three starters and Heiney scored 14 points during that game-changing quarter. He also hit four 3-pointers while Dylan Bieber scored 13 points. Jeff Fenstermacher added six assists as Hughesville improved to 8-3.

Montgomery scored 31 second-quarter points, erasing a deficit and pulling away from CMVT on its way to a 70-35 victory. Montgomery outscored CMVT 31-5 in that second quarter and allowed just 20 points over the final three. Logan Almeida scored a game-high 19 points for Montgomery, with Austin Kuhn producing 14. Hayden Wilt and Jacob Utter each scored eight.

Montoursville led by one after a quarter but Shamokin drained 10 3-pointers and broke things open in the second half, winning 60-28. The Indians snapped Montoursville’s four-game winning streak and Colin Seedor hit four 3-pointers. Jared Matlack scored eight points for Montoursville.

• Canton defeated Liberty, 46-27, to hand the Mounties their second loss in as many nights. Canton was led by Kendall Kitchen’s 16 points. Aislyn Williams had while adding five assists and grabbing five rebounds. Molly Ward had 12 rebounds, a team-high seven steals and two assists.

• Williamsport swimming split with Central Columbia as the girls won, 113-69, and the boys lost, 97-67.

Mallory Pardoe won the 200 IM in 2:19.69 and helped both the 200 medley relay team and 400 free relay teams win. Sydney Kelley won the 100 fly in 1:02.40 and Molly Garrison won a tight race in the 100 free in 1:00.66, winning by just 0.29 seconds.

On the boys side, Dayvon Boyd won the 1-meter diving competition with a score of 190.00. In the 100 free, Cal Hockman swam a 54.55, beating Central Columbia’s Bryce Rafel by just 0.45 seconds.

Lewisburg lost in a tri-meet against Danville (65-34) and Central Mountain (59-41) in girls swimming. The Wildcats fell to Danville, 59-38. On the boys side, Lewisburg tied with Danville and Central Mountain with identical 42-42 scores. Central Mountain topped Danville, 46-34.

Kimberly Shannon picked up wins in the 200 IM and 500 free for Lewisburg. She won the 200 IM with a time of 2:12.40, winning the event by roughly seven seconds ahead of Danville’s Alivia Shen. In the 500 free, Shannon won in 5:17.24, winning by 27 seconds. Central Mountain’s Ana Persun won the 100 fly in 1:02.15, winning a close race against Danville’s Hannah Bartholomew (1:02.67).

Leisher Gugino took first in the 200 free with a time of 1:56.73, winning the event by 32 seconds. He also was part of the Wildcats’ 200 medley relay team which won in 1:53.19 which comprised of Owen Wunder, Jonathan Hughes, Gugino and Jackson Walker. Jackson Walker also won for the Wildcats in the 50 free in 24.72.

Hughes took an individual win in the 100 free in 52.76.

Mason Ordonez won for Lewisburg in the 500 free with a time of 5:11.20, cruising and winning by an impressive 2 minutes, 3 seconds.

• Warrior Run defeated Milton, 57-15, in high school wrestling. The Defenders opened the match with three consecutive pins from 106 pounds through 120 before collecting three consecutive forfeit victories.

Gavin Hunter, Trey Nicholas and Anson Rouch won at 106-120 with falls in 1:45, 0:44 and 3:56, respectively.

• Penn College earned its second win of the season in men’s basketball against Penn State Abington 82-65. Corey Blackwell and Max Jackowsky combined for 30 points as both scored 15. Chris Coyne added 14 points and Jesse White scored 10.

Coyne nearly had a double-double as he had a team-high nine rebounds. The Wildcats (2-8) held a 36-32 lead at the half.

• In women’s basketball, Penn College lost on the road to PSU Abington, 69-60, as a strong fourth quarter helped PSU Abington pull away. Kayleigh Miller came off the bench to score 15 points for Penn College (2-9) and Maci Ilgen added 10.

Ja’Quela Dyer scored six and had a team-high nine rebounds while adding three assists.
