Local roundup: Warrior Run’s Emily McKee joins 1,000-point club
PHOTO PROVIDED Warrior Run's Emily McKee scored her 1,000th career point in Tuesday night's game at Montoursville.
Emily McKee reached an exclusive club in impressive fashion Tuesday night at Montoursville. McKee shined brightest in the fourth quarter of a close game, scoring 21 points and reaching 1,000 career points while helping Warrior Run defeat the Warriors, 49-43. McKee needed 18 points entering the contest to reach 1,000 and scored nine of Warrior Run’s 12 fourth-quarter points to help the Defenders hold off a Montoursville comeback.
McKee has come back strong after tearing her ACL in the final regular-season game of her sophomore season. The senior forward has often been double teamed throughout the season but is among the area’s leaders in scoring and rebounding while helping a young team make excellent progress. McKee also worked hard on her outside shot during the offseason and has developed into an excellent shooter.
McKee has scored 52 points in her last two games and Warrior Run has won three of its last four contests with both her production and leadership helping pave the way. She has Warrior Run about to earn a fourth straight playoff berth and also helped it capture a league title three years ago and reach the second round of states.
Sophomore Alexis Hudson also is coming on strong and scored 14 points while Alayna Wilkins hit two 3-pointers. Montoursville made a nice comeback, cutting a 12-point deficit in half. Alaina Marchioni scored 13 points, Maddie Labatch 11 and Shyanne Klemick eight.
Avery Bigelow produced her second double-double in two nights, scoring 18 points and grabbing 12 rebounds as Muncy turned a one-point halftime deficit into a 49-29 win over St. John Neumann. Muncy (14-2) won its fourth straight game and allowed just eight second-half points. The Indians continue getting quality balance and Arianna Copeland scored 10 points while Addi Eyer and Nolah Moyer each had nine. Gigi Parlante pulled down 12 rebounds for Neumann (6-10), Sheiana Tutler scored nine points and Lily Reid added five boards.
Allyia Kennedy scored 20 points, but Southern Columbia used a big fourth-quarter run to hold off Loyalsock and win, 59-50. The Tigers (15-1) lead the HAC-II and outscored Loyalsock, 18-10 in the final quarter with Avan Novak scoring 20 points. Mia Patterson scored 15 points for Loyalsock (12-5) which scored 18 third-quarter points to pull within one.
Hughesville gave defending Class AA state champion Mount Carmel a battle, dropping a hard-fought 36-31 contest. The game was tied 14-14 at halftime and Hughesville slowed an offense which scored 66 points Saturday against Southern.
