Marks picks up win at BAPS Speedway
Not everyone suffered the wrath of Mother Nature last weekend. One of the most exciting races was on Sunday night at BAPS Motor Speedway where Brent Marks held off multiple challenges by Anthony Macri and Danny Dietrich to capture the 30-Lap Kevin Gobrecht Classic qualifier and a $5,000 payday.
At multiple points you could have thrown a blanket over the three of them. Marks had a blockbuster 2022 season and was feeling pretty good about backing up a performance that made him the best Sprint Car driver in the country last year, but has been challenged by the new tires this year. It looks like he’s getting it figured out finally, as he took the win by 1.968 seconds, with Macri holding on for second, and Dietrich rounding out the podium. Freddie Rahmer started seventh and came up to fourth, while Devon Borden completed the top five.
“I don’t think any of us can say we left anything on the table,” Macri said. “We all ran each other hard, and the best part is that we ran each other clean. I think all three of us had points when we were better than the other; I hate losing, but as good as that was, it makes it easier. I gave everything I had. Danny and I were going back and forth, and I felt like we lost time to Brent. With lapped traffic, we caught back up to him. I thought I had a chance, but then Dietrich came back in with the sliders.”
BAPS also completed Saturday nights race with Scott Dellinger returned to the frontstretch for the first time since April of 2021 after an efficient performance in the 20-lap super sportsman main event.
In late model action, Taylor Farlling started on the pole and wired the field in the 20-lap main event.
Adam White chased down Greg Reed on Lap 3 and led the rest of the way to capture the 20-lap 602 crate sportsman main event. Talan Carter, Greg Reed, Ray Woodall, and Michael White completed the top five.
In the legends feature, second-place starter Tanner Jones outlasted ninth-place starter Chris Transeau by a slight .367 seconds to claim the 20-lap affair.
At The Grove on Friday night, Freddie Rahmer snapped a 39-race losing streak on Friday night, taking victory in the $5,000 to win 410 sprint car main event. His last win at the track came on July 16, 2021 with a different team. His win on Friday night was his first at the oval for veteran driver turned car owner Rich Eichelberger of Dillsburg.
In the 358 sprint main, it was Doug Hammaker taking his first win in the division since 2019.
Fans will get only one chance to see the All Stars Circuit of Champions sprint car series do battle at Williams Grove Speedway this season and that chance is coming up this Friday at 7:30 p.m.
The only appearance of the season by the All Stars at Williams Grove will be for the Hoosier Diamond Series Doug Esh Tribute Race, paying $10,000 to win.
Also the USAC East Coast sprint cars raced on Friday night at the Clinton County Speedway and Steven Drevicki of Reading claimed the victory. Tommy Dawson won the pro stocks, Jeffrey Weaver won the 270 micro sprints, Tommy Kunsman won the wingless 600 micros and John Stringfellow won the four cylinders. The USAC Race was a three-lap dash to the finish, and Drevicki nailed the restart and pulled away some from Aikin to collect his second consecutive series win of the season.
Aikin held off JT Ferry for second, with Bright and Danner rounding out the top five.
Clinton County Speedway returns Friday night with a four-division show, featuring the limited late models, pro stocks, 270 micro sprints, four cylinders and kids power wheels races. Gates open at 5 p.m. and racing begins at 7 p.m.
