STATE COLLEGE — Following are the highlights and lowlights from Penn State’s 38-15 victory over West Virginia on Saturday night at Beaver Stadium:

PLAY OF THE GAME: Drew Allar’s 12-yard touchdown was floated nicely and perfectly led KeAndre Lambert-Smith, extending the Nittany Lions’ lead to 21-7 with 8:36 left in the third quarter.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE GAME: Allar completed 21 of 29 passes for 325 yards and three touchdowns. He was not intercepted.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE GAME: Curtis Jacobs made a team-high 10 tackles, including seven solos, and a sack.

MOST TELLING STATISTIC: The Lions committed one penalty for five yards and didn’t make a turnover.

HIDDEN STATISTIC: Penn State averaged 11.1 yards per passing attempt.

MOST DECEIVING STATISTIC: West Virginia rushed for 146 yards.

BEST RUN: Has to be the squirrel getting loose in the first half.

BEST PASS: Maybe because it was early, but Allar showed good pocket presence and quick feet before zinging a 72-yard touchdown pass to Lambert-Smith on the Nits’ first possession.

WORST PASS: On first-and-10 from the WVU 17, up 14-7, Allar floated one over the middle in the end zone that Mountie corner Beanie Bishop dropped.

BEST CATCH: Kaden Saunders hustled upfield to fair-catch a punt in traffic that gave the Nits good field position (44) in the third quarter.

CATCH IT, WILL YA?: Lambert-Smith had a third-down drop over the middle just after halftime, forcing a punt. Dante Cephas and Trey Wallace also dropped balls in the red zone in the third quarter.

HOLD IT, WON’T YA? Penn State didn’t fumble.

BEST BLOCK: Nit tight end Tyler Warren helped spring a 15-yard gain off a screen to Kaytron Allen after WVU had tied the game.

BEST TACKLE: Abdul Carter’s 11-yard sack ended a WVU possession in the fourth quarter with the Lions up 24-7.

BEST KICK: There really weren’t any.

WORST KICK(S): Lefty FG kicker Sander Sahaydak hooked a pair in the second quarter, one from 38, the other from 34, sucking some air out of Beaver Stadium. Instead of 20-7, the Nits’ halftime lead stayed at 14-7. He was replaced by Alex Felkins.

BEST CALL: Getting the backups in with leads of 31-7 and 31-15 in the fourth quarter. Hasn’t always been the case.

WORST CALL: Nothing stood out.

BET EFFORT: Beau Pribula scoring from 5 yards out with :06 to play.

UNSUNG HERO: Wallace made seven catches for 72 yards.

BEST MOMENT: Honorary captain Tom Bradley received a nice ovation on his first trip back to Beaver Stadium since 2011.
