MARK NANCE/Sun-Gazette Correspondent Jersey Shore's Luke Thompson was named all-state in Class AAAA.

The area saw five athletes named all-state between the Class AA and AAAA as the Class AA, AAAA and 6A all-state football teams as the Pa. Football Writer’s teams were released this week.

Jersey Shore had a trio of players receive all-state honors in Class AAAA, all of which were defensive selections. The Bulldogs’ Bo Sechrist, a senior, was named all-state at linebacker, senior Carson Watkin was all-state at defensive back and senior Luke Thompson was named all-state at defensive line.

Thompson played in all 12 games and recorded 66 solo tackles, 29 assisted (95 total) and averaged an impressive 7.9 tackles per game. He also led the Bulldogs with 20 tackles for loss as he constantly was putting pressure on quarterbacks and running backs in the back field.

Sechrist had 112 total tackles to lead Jersey Shore defensively as he had 75 solo and 37 assisted. He ended the year with 9.3 tackles per game, leading the Bulldogs. Watkins, who also played all 12 games like Sechrist and Thompson, had 24 solo tackles and 10 assisted this past year.

Warrior Run senior Cohen Zechman earned all-state honors in Class AA as an athlete. He was the only area Class AA player to receive honors on offense. Zechman had 1,110 receiving yards for the Defenders on 64 receptions and reeled in 13 touchdown passes. He also saw a few carries in the backfield and ended the year with 1,200 total yards of offense.

Zechman fielded 10 kickoff returns and 14 punt returns this year and ended the year with 728 total return yards — 431 from punts, 297 from kickoffs.

On defense, Hughesville junior Connor Anstadt received honors as a specialist in Class AA. Anstadt played all 10 games on defense and had 61 solo tackles — a team-high — and 24 assisted tackles for 85 total. He averaged 8.5 tackles per game and had five tackles for loss this year.
