Lions’ O-line coach headed to Florida
Penn State’s roster movement continued Friday.
Offensive line coach Phil Trautwein, who spent six years with the Nittany Lions, is leaving for Florida, his alma mater, according to ESPN.
In addition, strength coach Chuck Losey is joining James Franklin at Virginia Tech. Losey has spent his entire career working with Franklin, dating back to their days at Vanderbilt.
Two Penn State coaches told On3.com that they plan to coach in the Pinstripe Bowl. They are offensive coordinator Andy Kotelnicki and running backs coach Stan Drayton.
Drayton is moving onto South Carolina, while Kotelnicki’s status is unclear.
Penn State announced 10 additions to Matt Campbell’s staff on Friday.
They are: Taylor Mouser (offensive coordinator/TEs), Ryan Clanton (offensive line), Deon Broomfield (secondary), Skip Brabenec (chief of staff), Derek Hoodjer (general manager), Aaron Hillmann (director of sports performance), Reid Kagy (head strength and conditioning), Brandon Pietrzyk (assistant strength and conditioning coach), Trent Slattenow (director of player personnel) and Jack Griffith (recruiting assistant).
Lion tight ends coach Ty Howle previously joined Franklin’s staff at Virginia Tech, along with quarterbacks coach Danny O’Brien.
On the player front, first-team all-Big Ten guard Vega Ioane is opting out of the Pinstripe Bowl vs. Clemson, joining running back Nick Singleton, safety Zakee Wheatley and defensive tackle Zane Durant.
ESPN draft guru Mel Kiper has projected Ioane as a possible first-round pick and among the top interior offensive linemen available.
On3 reported Dani Dennis-Sutton has accepted an invite to play in the Senior Bowl (Jan. 31), but his status for the Pinstripe Bowl has not been confirmed.
