Persun, Halstead, Ross claim two wins each as Williamsport sweeps tri-meet in swimming

Williamsport saw three swimmers claim two individual victories in Kiley Persun, Aviya Halstead and Brady Ross as Williamsport swept the competition in a tri-meet on Tuesday afternoon.

On the boys side, Williamsport beat MIlton (117-36) and Central Columbia (111-49) and the Williamsport girls beat Milton (113-63) and Central Columbia (119-48). Milton beat Central (95-69) in girls competition, but fell on the boys side to the Blue Jays (76-53).

Persun claimed two individual wins for the Millionaires by winning the 200 IM in 2:28.67, beating out teammate Miley Johnson who swam a 2:39.59.Milton’s Clara Stoudt finished in third with a time of 2:48.14.

Persun also won the girls 100 free by being the lone swimmer to break a minute, swimming a 57.94. Milton’s Larissa Rovenolt took third in 1:02.52.

In the girls 50 free, Halstead took first in 26.32 while Milton’s Rachel Goocey was a second-place finisher in 27.41. Halstead also won the 500 free with a time of 5:51.71, winning by more than 40 seconds in the event. Milton’s Kaylee Mortimer was third in 7:07.52. Goocey of Milton won the 100 breast in 1:17.08, just narrowly beating Ross of Williamsport (1:17.31).

Milton’s Morgan Cohoon won the 100 fly with a time of 1:12.73 and Williamsport’s Sarah Carothers took second in 1:17.25.

Ross had a solid performance in the boys 200 IM to win in 2:08.77, cruising to a victory by roughly 12 seconds. Nathaniel DePrenda took third in 2:22.98. Ross aso won the 100 back in 1:02.06.

In girls competition, Halstead, Annie Ross, Kyla Becker and Kiley Persun swam a time of 2:05.94 to win the girls 200 medley relay by six seconds. The team of Halstead, Johnson, Ross and Persun won the girls 200 free relay in 1:50.92, beating Milton’s Rovenolt, Clara Stoudt, Cohoon and Goocey by three seconds.

Allie Eberhart scored a 176.65 to win the girls 1-meter diving competition as teammate Clover Lindsay was second with a score of 168.50.

The Williamsport girls 400 free relay team of Hill, Richards, Lynnae Campbell and Johnson won in 4:21.50.

On the boys side of things, Williamsport’s DePrenda, Evan Summers, Aiden Li and Cy Haight won the boys 200 medley relay in a time of 1:49.87, winning by four seconds. Williamsport also won the 200 free relay with the team of Nathaniel DePrenda, Li, Fink and Ross winning in 1:38.81.

The Millionaires’ Evan Weaver swam a time of 2:03.56 to take second place behind only Calvin Kehres of Central Columbia (2:00.50). Weaver would later win in the 100 breast with a time of 1:08.84.

Evan Summers won the boys 500 free in 4:58.72 and was also a second-place finisher in the boys 50 free in 23.26, just 0.03 seconds behind Milton’s Nolan Scheller who won. In the 500 free, Max Fink of Williamsport took second in 5:45.22.

Williamsport’s Cooper Allmaras claimed a victory in the boys 1-meter diving competition with a score of 132.15. Allmaras took second in the 100 free in 51.32 and trailed only Milton’s Nolan Scheller (49.75). Williamsport’s Aiden Li took third in 59.37.

Hughesville had a number of swimmers compete as independents in the tri-meet. Ashlynn Barlett competed in the 50 free and 100 free and finished in 29.54 and 1:04.76, respectively. Evelynn Meckbach swam a 30.22 in the 50 free and a 1:07.22 in the 100 free. Sydney Siperko swam a 32.23 in the 50 free and a time of 1:14.13 in the 100 free. Luke Siperko swam a time of 26.12 in the 50 free and a time of 59.29 in the 100 free.
