Frantz scores 34, leads Muncy boys to rout over Bucktail

KEVIN RAUCH/Special to the Sun-Gazette Muncy's Dominic Guardini puts on heavy pressure to Bucktail freshman Corbin Pentz as Pentz looks for an open shot in Muncy's 79-47 win on Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2026, in Farwell.

FARWELL – Muncy junior Jaxton Frantz had a near-flawless shooting performance at Bucktail Wednesday evening, as the Indian tallied 34 points that included hitting six three-point shots, leading his team to a 79-47 win over the Bucks.

It was a surprisingly close game after the first quarter as the visitors led by just one in a 16-15 contest. However, led by Frantz, Muncy was able to answer every Bucktail attempt to keep the game close from that point on, racking up points in the process.

Muncy’s speed and aggression quickly led to an 8-0 run to open the second quarter. Bucktail answered at one point to get back within seven at 28-21, but Frantz quickly answered with a three-point shot from the right side of the court before hitting one from the left side on the Indians’ next possession, moving the score to 34-21 in just seconds.

Late in the first half, Bucktail’s Gavin Pick followed a play down the court and made a highlight type block on a Muncy shooter, with the hard swipe smashing the ball off of the backboard. But before the Bucks fans could even make it to their feet to applaud, Dominic Guardini swiftly grabbed the loose ball for an easy lay-up.

Muncy would push the score to mercy rule status midway through the fourth quarter.

“Honestly, I don’t feel that we played as badly as the score looked,” said Bucktail head coach Travis Fantaskey. “That was a good team. We’re young. I actually just hugged one of our players who was frustrated, explaining that these types of opponents are a little much for us right now in our progression”.

“I do wish we would stop missing the short shots, and the crazy pass attempts, I just can’t get them to stop trying to attempting passes that have no chance of working out,” he added.

Muncy improved to 16-6 with the win and will be at Montgomery on Friday. The road doesn’t get any easier for the now 6-12 Bucks, who visit South Williamsport on Saturday afternoon.
