RALPH WILSON/Sun-Gazette Correspondent Williamsport's Sarah Carothers competes in the 200 IM during a high school swim tri-meet with Wellsboro and Danville at Williamsport on Tuesday.
For the last few swim meets, Williamsport’s Kiley Persun had to watch from the sidelines due to a mild injury. She wanted to be in the pool to compete with her teammates, but had to wait until she got her chance again.
On Tuesday, it was back in the pool for Persun, and she had a strong return for the Millionaires. Persun claimed two individual victories as Williamsport lost an extremely close tri-meet to Danville. The Millionaire girls lost by just four points to the Ironmen, 94-90, and cruised over Wellsboro, 138-20. On the boys side, Williamsport swept the competition by beating Danville (105-70) and Wellsboro (124-24).
“It was definitely a little more difficult coming back, but I’m happy to be back after missing two meets,” Persun said. “I definitely missed it and I’m excited to be back.”
“She’s been working really hard. She was down a little bit last week with an injury, so having her back and ready to go was really good,” Williamsport coach Brett Johnson said. “She swam really well today, even with that little injury that she had. But she’s a good leader and a lot of the other girls look up to her. It’s great having her.”
Persun won the 200 free by swimming a time of 2:07.72 and beat out Danville’s Zoe Czech by two seconds (2:09.63). Later in the 500 free, Persun swam a time of 5:51.13 to win and bested Czech by roughly three seconds (5:54.07).

RALPH WILSON/Sun-Gazette Correspondent Williamsport's Kyla Becker competes in the 200 Medley Relay during a high school swim tri-meet with Wellsboro and Danville at Williamsport on Tuesday.
“Oh yeah, it’s always a good race when I swim against her. It’s nice having some competition. It really helps me to push myself. I think it pushes her as well,” Persun said.
“She was going after it, for sure. She’s well aware of what Kiley could swim and her goal is ‘I’m gonna try to stay with her and see what I can do,'” Danville coach Danielle Sticklin said. “She did exactly that and it pushed her to do better than what she was hoping to do. We know where we were last year at this time, we’re a little ahead this year, so we feel pretty good about things.”
Persun knew entering Tuesday’s tri-meet that it would be a tough battle against Danville. The last few years the two have battled in close duals by just a few points.
“We lost by one point and this year we knew coming into it that we had to bring everything we had if we wanted to compete up with them,” Persun said.
It was something that Johnson echoed as well.

RALPH WILSON/Sun-Gazette Correspondent Williamsport's Addison Hill competes in the 200 Medley Relay during a high school swim tri-meet with Wellsboro and Danville at Williamsport on Tuesday.
“This is a meet that always comes down to that. Last year it was one point, I think two years ago it was four points, this year it’s four points. They got to mentally get ready and get locked in. And I think they were, I think some fatigue set in, but it’s all part of swimming,” Johnson said. “They did a great job, they pulled through in the breast stroke and the relays (we won the 200 medley) but wasn’t enough. They did a great job.”
Persun was one of two Williamsport girls to pick up two individual wins as Aviya Halstead won the 50 free and 100 free and, like Persun, beat out a solid Danville swimmer in both races in Cleo Hummel.
In the 50 free, Persun won in 26.24, narrowly beating Hummel who finished in 26.55 as the two were neck-and-neck down the final stretch. In the 100 free, Halstead swam a 56.15 to win and beat Hummel by roughly a second (57.21) while Wellsboro’s Piper Anderegg took third in 1:00.45.
Annie Ross won the 100 breast for Williamsport with a time of 1:16.28.
The Williamsport team of Dylana Richards, Ross, Kyla Becker and Addison Hill won the 200 medley relay in 2:08.71.

RALPH WILSON/Sun-Gazette Correspondent Williamsport's Cooper Allmaras competes in the 200 Medley Relay during a high school swim tri-meet with Wellsboro and Danville at Williamsport on Tuesday.
On the boys side, Williamsport’s Evan Summers and Brady Ross each were two-event winners.
Summers won the 200 free in 1:50.66, beating out teammate Max Fink (2:01.14) and Danville’s Samuel Madara (2:01.56) and also picked up a victory in the 100 fly with a time of 53.98. That race was a tight one as Danville’s Jimmy Zhang swam a 54.62.
For Ross, he won the 200 IM in 2:08.32 and beat out Cooper Allmaras, who swam a 2:09.61 for second. Ross also won the 100 free thanks to a time of 50.48, beating teammate Fink by four seconds and Wellsboor’s Matthew Robbins, who took third in 54.43.
“Brady’s been also working really hard, he’s stepped it up even over last year,” Johnson said. “He’s a team leader, a captain and he’s just been doing a good job. He works hard all the time, there’s no real quit. What you see is what you’re getting.”
The Millionaires 200 medley relay team of Allmaras, Summers, Nathaniel DePrenda and Ross won with a time of 1:46.29 and that foursome claimed a victory in the 200 free relay in 1:33.38.

RALPH WILSON/Sun-Gazette Correspondent Williamsport's Evan Summers competes in the 200 Freestyle during a high school swim tri-meet with Wellsboro and Danville at Williamsport on Tuesday.
Williamsport’s Evan Weaver was an individual winner as well as he won the 100 breast in 1:08.75, beating teammate Peter Michaluk’s 1:14.68 as he finished in second.
Up next for the Millionaires is a home invitational on Saturday morning against a lot of solid competition, something the Millionaires look forward to competing against.
“I’m excited for it. It’s always a good meet with lots of competition. It’s always a fun day,” Persun said.
