Neumann’s Daiton Thompson reaches 1,000 career points

Daiton Thompson joined an exclusive St. John Neumann club Wednesday night and put together a dazzling performance as well. Thompson scored a game-high 38 points and reached 1,000 career points in Neumann’s 72-63 overtime loss at Central Mountain. Thompson reached the milestone despite injuries costing him nearly half of his sophomore season. The team’s point guard scored 24 of his 38 points in the first half and topped 30 points for sixth time this season. Central Mountain erased an 11-point third quarter deficit and tied the game after trailing by three in the final 20 seconds of regulation. Noah Wells scored 19 points, Darius Shade 15 and Carson Couturiaux 11.

Williamsport used fantastic balance and stingy defense to blast Danville, 86-43 on the road. Six players scored at least nine points, and the Millionaires (10-9) built a 28-point halftime lead while winning their third straight. Freshmen Saleem Overton (career-high 15) and Mekhi Gaston (12) combined for 27 points. Tevin Williams produced 15 points, Josh Sweeting a career-best 11 and Kason Ulmer and Quincy Williams nine each.

Three players scored in double figures and Landon Lathan dealt nine assists, helping Jersey Shore win at East Juniata, 63-48. The Bulldogs (9-10) won their third straight game as Khani McCray scored 13 points, Jake Lorson had 12 and Breylan Guerrero 10. Lorson and Guerrero both grabbed six rebounds and Lathan scored nine points.

Evan McTish collected his fourth double-double in his last six games, going for 26 points and 15 rebounds while helping North Penn-Liberty pound Williamson, 72-40. Luke Kreger scored 17 points with four steals and four assists and Conner Lewis (9 points, 10 rebounds) grabbed at least 10 rebounds for a 12th straight game. The Mounties stormed out to a 31-6 first quarter lead and scored 53 first half points.

Hughesville concluded its season at Selinsgrove as Gavin Knarr scored nine points in a 77-29 loss. Alex Schultz added seven points for the Spartans (6-16) who made a three-win improvement this season and will return most of their players next year.

Six Cowanesque Valley players scored eight or points as the Indians cruised to a 60-40 win at Sayre. Levi Stahli led the way with 14 points, while Josh Teague had 10, Ashtyn Burdick nine and Parker Lee, Reed Vargeson and Carsyn Kemp eight each.

Monte Whitehead scored 12 points for Canton in an 83-18 loss against NTL-II champion Northeast Bradford. Cooper Brown scored 23 for the Panthers who improved to 18-2.

The Muncy girls again played relentless defense, allowing just two field goals while romping to a 45-4 win at Millersburg. Rosie Zalonis scored 13 points and dealt five assists, while Emma McCormick scored 10 points. Alexis McKeta grabbed seven rebounds and Muncy (18-1) set the tone for its eighth straight win with a dominant 22-2 first quarter run.
