The Bucktail softball team wasted little time starting its season off on the right track, as a four-run top of the first from its monstrous top of the order set the pace for a 10-6 win at Moshannon Valley on Wednesday afternoon.

Mike Poorman’s teams always have postseason goals and this year’s top bats will no doubt provide fire power all season long.

Kendall Wagner had the biggest day of all players on either team, as she finished the day going 3-for-3 from the plate, scoring three runs and adding three RBIs. Makenna Stone, Eva Sockman and Rebeka Conway all added a pair of hits each.

With the bats firing, sophomore pitcher Carrie Ditty took over from the mound.

After the first inning saw the Black Knights score two unearned runs, Ditty wouldn’t allow any more opportunities for the home team to capitalize on miscues, throwing four scoreless innings before freshman Kelsie Wagner came on in relief. Ditty allowed just one run in five innings of work.

The game was Bucktail’s first of the season as Mo Valley came in at 1-0. The Bucks will face their first big test of the season when they host 1-0 Canton on Saturday afternoon. The Warriors beat Sayre 15-0 in their opener.
