Local roundup: Shore’s Clark joins 100 hit club as Bulldogs win
Lynna Clark joined an impressive club Monday, going 3 for 4 and collecting her 100th career hit while helping Jersey Shore softball rout Danville, 19-3 in five innings. Clark, a four-year starter, doubled, drove in four runs and scored twice.
She joined teammate Dani Miller in the 100-hit group and Miller was 4 for 4 with a double, four runs and two RBIs. Lexi Frey earned the win, striking out five and also hit an RBI double as Jersey Shore (8-3, 4-1) stayed within one game of first place in the HAC-I. Maddie Thomas added a hit and three runs.
South Williamsport held a two-run lead after one inning, but Towanda took over from there, winning, 17-4 in five innings. The Mounties were held hitless but took advantage of a walk, two sacrifice bunts and two errors and a wild pitch to take a 3-1 first inning lead.
Mikaiya Hills scored two runs for South and Emma McLaughlin and Maddie Pinkerton the other two.
• Parker Bennett threw a five-inning no-hitter and struck out 12 as Montgomery blanked Northwest, 10-0 in a battle of Mid-Penn Division leaders. Bennett was overpowering and was a walk from a perfect game, striking out 12 of the 16 batters he faced. The senior also went 1 for 1 with an RBI and three runs. Lincoln Miller sparked the offense, going 2 for 2 with three RBIs. Briar Persing had two hits and two RBIs and Trace Furman two hits with two runs. The Red Raiders (10-1) won their ninth straight and clinched a ninth straight consecutive playoff berth. They have reached the postseason in 19 of the last 20 seasons.
Elijah Eck and Logan Kirby formed a dynamic tandem at Giles Field, combining on a two-hit shutout as Montoursville edged Midd-West, 1-0. Eck earned the win, throwing five innings of one-hit baseball and striking out five Kirby earned the save, striking out three in two innings. Zack Neill collected two hits for a second straight game and Brody Aldenderfer’s third-inning RBI single made the difference. Aldenderfer scored Jonah Heddings (1 for 2) and Montoursville (7-2, 6-1 HAC-II) stayed within a game of first in the league entering Wednesday’s game against first-place Mount Carmel.
Kamdyn Bubb and Chance Quimby combined on a three-hitter and South scored three runs in the fourth inning to break a tie as it defeated Towanda, 6-3. Bubb threw 5 2/3 innings, striking out five and allowing no earned runs to improve to 3-0. Quimby threw 1 1/3 innings of hitless relief and earned the save. Bubb, Trace Wertz, Jaymes Carpenter, Cole Gerber and Torin Haug all hit doubles. Gerber and Haug drove in two runs, while Carpenter and Bubb each had RBIs. Eight players produced hits as South (6-4) won for the third time in four games.
Drake Dupont three six innings of three hit baseball and Drake Dupont worked a perfect seventh, earning the save as Loyalsock defeated Bloomsburg, 5-3. Dupont helped his cause, going 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run, while winning his third game on the mound. Jacob Baylor added a hit and RBI and Nolan Rall and Carter Mileto also had hits. The Lancers scored three first inning runs to go up, 3-0.
Kynton Fish threw a one-hitter and Jameson Barlow, Nick Delany and Vinny Finochiaro all had two hits as Muncy downed Sullivan County, 19-2 in four innings. Delany doubled and drove in three runs, while Barlow added two RBIs and three runs. Finochiaro went 2 for 2 as Muncy (5-4) scored 18 runs in its final two at-bats. Tucker Blasi homered for Sullivan County.
Nolen Pauling and Carter Rhinehart both produced three hits but Shikellamy scored five fourth inning runs and defeated Jersey Shore, 5-3.
Rhinehart doubled and drove in two runs, while he and Pauling both scored runs. Hunter Enders went 2 for 4 with an RBI double and Tucker Hanna was 1 for 1. Pauling and Hayden Kelley combined on a three-hitter but Shikellamy took advantage of four errors and scored four unearned runs.
St. John Neumann suffered a 12-4 setback against Benton at home on Monday. Neumann led 4-3 after two innings thanks to scoring two runs in both the first and second innings, but a three-run third put Benton back in the driver’s seat and the Tigers never looked back.
Benton scored twice in the fourth to increase its lead to 8-4 and added three in the seventh. Neumann was limited to three hits as Clark Bower hit a double.
• Jersey Shore secured a 5-0 win at home against Williamsport on Monday afternoon to hand Williamsport its eighth loss of the year.
Ryder Fink and Ezra Paulhamus both posted 6-0, 6-0 wins at Nos. 1 and 2 singles, respectively. Fink beat Howard Chen, 6-0, 6-0 and Paulhamus beat Spencer Kaar, 6-0, 6-0. At No. 3 singles, Jersey Shore’s Saul Hensler earned a 6-1, 6-0 victory against Joseph Hillman.
In doubles action, Abram Paulhamus and Luke Sarge teamed to beat Wyatt Judge and Charles Plummer, 6-1, 6-2 and at No. 2 doubles, Dillon Harsanyi and Dylan Hensler beat Brayden Swanson and Cooper Gilbert, 6-1, 6-1.
Chen and Kaar travel to the District 6 singles tournament in Altoona on Tuesday and Williamsport’s next team match is scheduled for Thursday at home against Central Mountain as senior Wyatt Judge will be honored.
South Williamsport fell to Wellsboro, 4-1, to drop to 8-5. The Mounties’ lone victory came at No. 3 singles where Dylan Webb had a three-set thriller over Wellsboro’s RJ Doughtie. After Webb won the first set, 6-4, DOughtie responded wtih a 7-5 in to force a third-set match. That third set Webb won in exciting fashion, 7-6 (4).
In doubles action, Wellsboro’s Gideon Lawton and James Doughtie won in three sets against Levi Jackson and David Miller 6-3, 6-7 (5), 6-3.
Wellsboro’s Luke Rothermel beat Carson Harris at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-3 and at No. 2 singles, the Green Hornets’ Mason Brill defeated Sawyer Fry, 6-0, 6-0.
Wellsboro’s doubles team of Tavi Wyman and Stephen Porier secured a 6-3 6-1 win over Nate Miller and Camero Stahl.
Danville improved to 12-1 with a 5-0 win against Milton in boys tennis. David Sommer beat Hagen Hanselman at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-2 while Munjaal Metha earned a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles over Milton’s Ricky Campos.
At No. 3 singles, Colin Sauers of Danville beat Adam Kerstetter, 6-1, 6-2.
• Freshman Hill Meserve posted a 4-over-par 76 to finish 14th and junior Will Eberz was 18th with a 6-over-par 78 to lead the Lycoming College golf team to a fifth-place finish in a 51-golfer field at the Penn State Altoona Spring Invitational held at the par-72, 6,515-yard Sinking Valley Country Club.
Freshman Tre Lesperance added an 8-over-par 80 to finish tied for 24th and rounding out the scoring four, freshman Colby Seiler added an 83, as the team posted a 29-over-par 317, the team’s best round of the fall.
Freshman Ryan Ault, a Jersey Shore graduate, posted a 15-over-par 87.
• Penn State coach Mike Rhoades has announced the signing of Davidson transfer guard Roberts Blums ahead of the 2026-27 Penn State men’s basketball season. Blums, a Latvia native, was Davidson’s leading scorer during the 2025-26 campaign and comes to Happy Valley with two seasons of eligibility remaining.
Blums played first two collegiate seasons at Davidson, appearing in 63 contests and was Davidson’s leading scorer as a sophomore in 2025-26, averaging 12.4 points per game to go along with 3.4 rebounds per contest.
He ranked seventh in the Atlantic 10 in both 3-point field goal percentage (40.7%) and 3-pointers made (77) during stellar sophomore campaign. Tallied 21 double-digit scoring efforts and three 20-plus point games.
