An elderly man was killed late Thursday afternoon in a tractor accident on or near his Linden area property, according to Lycoming County Coroner Charles E. Kiessling Jr.

William Weigle, 79, of 274 Reynolds Road, was operating a large farm tractor in a field along Reynolds Road in Woodward Township shortly before 5 p.m. when apparently it rolled back on him after he got off it to do something, Kiessling said.

No one witnessed it, but a friend or neighbor discovered him under the tractor soon after it happened, Kiessling said.

The person drove the tractor off him and called for help. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation was begun on Weigle, and emergency responders got a pulse in the ambulance while en route to UPMC Williamsport, but he died there in the emergency room about 5:50 p.m. as a result of traumatic chest and abdominal injuries, Kiessling said.
