Man jailed with no bail after felony charges for allegedly possessing videos of nude children

A Georgia man has been arrested on felony charges for possessing more than 100 videos of nude children; including one video of a child from Lycoming County, according to state police at the Montoursville barracks.

After meeting a Clinton Township male minor online, John Tyler Moreland, 30, of Macon, asked the boy to take a video of himself naked and then send the video to him, police said. At the time, Moreland used a girl’s name to trick the minor into believing he was conversing with a female, police said.

In exchange for receiving the video of the naked boy, Moreland sent inappropriate photos and videos of nude girls, police alleged.

The investigation here began in late December after the boy’s mother “retrieved” her son’s phone and saw pornographic images of her son along with other inappropriate material on the phone, according an affidavit filed by Trooper Josiah Reiner

An extensive investigation led authorities to Moreland and the seizure of child pornographic material on his Snapchat Inc. accounts, Reiner said, adding that the material was obtained with search warrants.

Trooper Evan Llanso, also assigned to the Montoursville barracks, has been instrumental with this investigation, which will likely lead to other victims across the country, Reiner said.

The FBI, along with other law enforcement agencies, also involved in the case, Reiner confirmed.

Moreland, arrested without incident by a fugitive task force in the Macon area on April 17, waived extradition and has been brought back here to face multiple counts of possession of child sexual abuse material, 135 counts each of unlawful contact with a minor (sexual abuse of children) and possession of computer photos of sexual acts involving children, and one count each of criminal use of a communication device and corrupting the morals of a minor.

Moreland, who was employed as “a student-family pastor” at a Baptist church in Georgia up until his arrest, has no prior criminal record, Reiner said.

Jailed on no bail in the Lycoming County Prison, he is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing Friday before District Judge Kirsten Gardner.
