A serious crash in Moreland Township in which three people were injured shut down a section of Route 118 late Sunday afternoon.
The crash in the 3100 block of Route 118, near Neuhard Road, occurred about 4:20 p.m.
Firefighters from Lairdsville, Hughesville and Muncy Area were among the emergency responders dispatched to the scene, along with several ambulances.
One first responder on the scene was heard telling a dispatcher to instruct paramedics, already en route, “to expedite” to the crash.
Geisinger’s Life Flight medical helicopter was also dispatched, but was canceled before landing.
Lairdsville Fire Chief William Gordner confirmed it was a single-vehicle crash in which the car, with three male occupants, went off the road and overtuned, landing in the woods about 40 to 50 feet from the road. Two of the occupants were ejected while a third was “severely entrapped” in the wreckage, Gordner said.
State police were leading the investigation.
One ambulance leaving the scene was en route to UPMC Williamsport with an unresponsive patient with traumatic injuries.
Employees with the state Department of Transportation were diverting motorists away from the scene.
