New charges lodged against inmate

Lycoming County Prison inmate Jonathan Pedraza, 35, faces new misdemeanor charges of possession of a weapon and possession of an instrument of crime after a shank, a homemade knife, he allegedly had in his possession fell to the floor while he and a second inmate were engaged in physical confrontation inside the jail at 277 W. Third St. on Oct. 12, according to an affidavit filed by county Detective Stephen Sorage. Jailed since mid-August on another criminal matter, Pedraza was arraigned Tuesday before District Judge Aaron Biichle and recommitted in lieu of an additional $10,000 bail.

Motorist locked up following confrontation with state troopers

What began simply as stopping a motorist for a non functioning taillight on a Chevrolet HHR SUV at West Third and Rose streets in the city about 2 a.m. on Tuesday resulted in the 21-year-old driver being incarcerated on numerous state police charges. Soon after Diotay Burney was pulled over, “he displayed mood swings” and became confrontational while sitting in the driver’s seat, police alleged, adding he was ordered seven times to get out of the vehicle, but he refused, it was stated in an affidavit. Burney, of 424 Third Ave., second floor, fled a short distance with the SUV, but then stopped, police said, adding that he was then removed from the vehicle, the court document stated. Police allege he continued to put up resistance as the troopers handcuffed him and took him into custody. Suspected of being impaired, Burney was arraigned before District Judge William Solomon on a felony charge of fleeing police as well as resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, DUI, all misdemeanors, plus three summary offenses. He was committed to county prison in lieu of $75,000 bail.

Driver faces charges for allegedly fleeing Moreland Township crash scene

Motorist Colton France, 30, of 5668 Route 442, Muncy, faces charges for abandoning his Chevrolet Cruze after it crashed on Route 442 near Wallis Road, not far from his Moreland Township home, on Nov. 27, according to state police. Besides being charged with the summary offense of accidents involving damage to unattended vehicle or property (hit-run), France has also been charged with illegal possession of a firearm after a rifle was found in the car, police said, adding that at the time of the crash, there was a protection from abuse order filed against France, and the order prohibited him from possessing any guns. He told police the rifle was “a gift for his mother,” it was stated in an affidavit. France was held for court on both charges plus five additional summary offenses following a hearing before Gardner. He was released on $5,000 bail.
