STEP Centers for Healthy Aging partner with James V. Brown Library

This fall, STEP’s Centers for Healthy Aging will partner with the James V. Brown Library to offer a two-part class aimed at preventing falls. “Healthy Steps for Older Adults: A Program to Prevent Falls” will be offered from 1-3 p.m. Oct. 11 and 18, at the library, 19 E. Fourth St., in the Lowry Room. Participants in the two-part program will learn how to reduce their risk of falling by making their homes safer, managing medicines and improving strength and balance. Home Instead Senior Care offices to host Alzheimer’s Learning Day events

The number of Americans living with Alzheimer’s disease is expected to triple — from 5 million today to more than 16 million by 2050. As the number of people with Alzheimer’s and other dementias increases, so too, will the need for communities to adapt and become more accessible to those living with the disease. Master Gardeners and STEP RiverWalk Center partnership continues into fall

Since this spring, the Penn State Extension Master Gardeners and participants at the STEP RiverWalk Center have had hands-on classes covering soil, composting, watering and growing vegetables and flowers. Upcoming topics include seed saving, putting your garden to bed and planting bulbs. Workshops are held from 1-2:30 p.m. every Thursday.
