Council talks paving, gas lines
Two paving projects were approved by City Council Thursday, one set to begin in a week and another in the spring.
Council authorized the Williamsport Municipal Water Authority an extension to spring to mill and put a final overlay on Arch Street, between West Fourth and Glynn Alley.
The authority contractor has put down a temporary coat to help get the drivers through the winter months.
The second project is a gas main replacement on Cemetery Street near Memorial Avenue. The project begins November and will end in December, weather permitting, according to a UGI spokesman, the gas company mandated to replace older pipes.
During the project, those living in the area who have gas turned off will have their gas service returned by the end of the day, the spokesman said.
Councilwoman Bonnie Katz and Councilman Don Noviello of the public works committee assured residents the city is working in tandem with the utilities and their contractors.
The efforts to improve communications and accountability have been helping to reduce the number of complaints committee personnel are receiving, Katz, the committee chairwoman, said.
In other business council:
• Approved Dennis Bennet to be appointed to a five-year on the Veterans Memorial Park Commission.
• Designated Adam Winder, general manager of city streets and parks department, as an agent to receive Federal Emergency Management Agency funds after flood-related events.
