ROUNDUP: Loyalsock tennis opens with win over Central

Loyalsock dropped just a combined five games in singles competition as it opened the high school tennis season with a 4-1 win over Central Columbia. Katie Savidge, Madison Savidge and Jenna Beiter all took straight-sets victories in singles. Abigail Patel and Sienna Tolomay combined for a 6-1, 6-1 win in doubles.

Milton won the final four matches of the night to take a 4-1 win over Bloomsburg. Chloe Perrin and Emily Snyder teamed for a 7-5, 6-0 win at first doubles, and Mekayla Schrock and Hanna Seebold won, 6-1, 6-0 at second doubles.

Williamsport swept a trio of singles matches in straight sets and Desiree Aversa and Madison Marchese combined for a 6-0, 6-4 doubles win as the Millionaires beat Mifflinburg, 4-1. Katie Meale picked up a 6-3, 6-2 win at first singles for Williamsport.

• Warrior Run’s Vincent Bender carded the second-best score of the day, firing an 81 at the Berwick Country Club in the Heartland-II golf season opener. Bender’s score was bested only by Bloomsburg’s Morgan Sohosky, who was the tournament medalist with a 76. South Williamsport’s Bryce Brewer shot an 86 to lead the Mounties.

Mike Miller led Montgomery with a 79 as the Red Raiders finished second at the first-ever Mid-Penn golf match at Mill Race in Benton. Mario Barberio added an 87 for Montgomery. Nate Hansen shot a 97 to lead Sullivan County and Garrett Walizer shot a 93 to lead Sugar Valley.
