Stay calm, vigilant when dealing with scammers

Decent people are assaulted regularly by scammers attempting to gain their personal information, their money, and usually, both. A new round of scam attempts has taken things up a notch by including state seals. Law abiding citizens are used to being able to believe that if something comes ...

Preventing ‘road rage’ starts with each motorist

We’ve all been there. Whether blinded by the high beams of a tailgating vehicle or unexpectedly cut off by another, the unexpected maneuvers that occur on short jaunts to the grocery or long drives to the beach are enough to provoke even the most even-tempered among us to raise a shaking ...

Politics and war

I am shocked to see how many of the women we have elected to Congress have become vocal when speaking about the country, Trump, and the Iran War(?). They imply that America is an illegal country, racist, and an enemy of freedom and equality. The same can be said about the women who are governors of certain states. Finally, we have women who are in positions of power who were not born in America or did not grow up in America. This does not mean I have a problem with women in power. I do have a problem with their decision-making. I feel they are parroting the views of the ...

What other newspapers are saying: No justification for airline bailout

Who could have imagined that the U.S. government would deem a budget airline too big to fail? Yet here we are, as President Trump is flying to the rescue of the beleaguered Spirit Airlines. This is a story of how one misconceived government intervention leads to another. Spirit last summer declared bankruptcy for the second time in less than two years. A hefty debt load and challenging business model has made a turnaround difficult. The Biden antitrust cops closed one escape hatch by blocking its merger with JetBlue in 2024. Now Spirit is getting slammed by soaring prices for jet fuel ...

Gun violence or people violence?

In a letter from April 27, the writer assures us that if we just ban guns, violence will stop. How so? He does nothing to explain how violent people will stop. Or who will stop them. Or, perhaps, every person who is attacked by someone intent on committing violence should just submit to injury, rape, or death, just so the perpetrator can feel better. At least that’s the way the courts and left wing politicians seem to feel about it. Even though they’re protected by people with guns. You’re so concerned about a federal concealed carry mandate yet, with millions of people ...

Don’t blame the messenger

Several writers seem to have neglected to read the letter written by Williamsport Mayor Slaughter regarding the cancellation of fireworks in the city this year. They have chosen to instead focus on attacking the person who wrote the letter. When I saw the announcement I knew that whoever delivered that message was going to be skewered by many residents. It is sad that so many people have a need to attack someone personally rather than pay attention to the facts. Meetings were held with the fire and police departments as well as other safety officials, and the decision was made together, ...
