Eight charged with DUI
At 10:30 p.m. on July 11, Ashley Kuntz, 53, of 1182 Matthews Road, Trout Run, was arrested by state police following a report of a domestic disturbance with weapons in which Kuntz fled in her 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander, taking along a loaded handgun.
Kuntz told police the handgun was in the back seat of her vehicle, and it was removed without incident.
During questioning, Kuntz stated that although harming herself had crossed her mind, she no longer intended to do so, or to harm anyone else, relating that she had taken the gun for protection only, according to court documents.
Kuntz had watery, bloodshot eyes, an odor of alcohol, and could not stand straight, police allege.
Kuntz admitted to having consumed three to four alcoholic drinks, with the most recent being two hours prior to driving, according to an affidavit.
Due to safety concerns, no field sobriety test was administered. Kuntz had a BAC of .12.
She was charged with DUI, careless driving, and released.
In another case, at 6:15 p.m. on Oct. 30, 2022, Westley Palmer, 19, of Milton, was arrested by Lycoming Regional Police following reports of his 2003 Dodge truck weaving all over the roadway, including into the construction zone along South Route 220.
Upon police contact with Palmer, he became argumentative, according to court documents.
Palmer was lethargic, with slow, slurred speech, and a bong was observed in the cup holder of the truck, police allege.
Palmer admitted to having smoked marijuana earlier in the day, and related that there was a marijuana grinder in the truck, according to an affidavit.
Palmer failed a field sobriety test, and tested positive for a reportable amount of caffeine, Xanax, and THC.
He was charged with DUI and possession of drug paraphernalia, and released on $15,000 bail.
In another case, on June 11, William Dincher, 50, of 183 Ten Acre Lane, Montoursville, was arrested by state police after his 2014 Subaru Forester was involved in a one-vehicle roll-over accident in the 3900 block of Quaker Church Road in Mill Creek Twp.
Dincher had watery, bloodshot eyes and an odor of alcohol, according to police.
Though initially denying consuming alcohol, he later admitted he had drunk prior to driving, according to an affidavit.
Dicher failed a field sobriety test, and refused lab work.
He was charged with DUI, three summary offenses, waived his preliminary hearing, and was released on $2,500 bail.
In another case, at 1:30 a.m. on June 19, Leah Sechrist, 20, of 198 Fairfield Center Road, Montoursville, was stopped by state police at Alexander and Lycoming Mall Drive after they observed the registration on his 2008 Subaru Impreza to have expired in April. The vehicle also had an inoperable driver’s side tail light.
Sechrist had glassy, bloodshot eyes with dilated pupils, and an odor of alcohol, with an odor of burnt and raw marijuana coming from the vehicle, police allege.
Sechrist told police she had consumed marijuana four hours prior to driving.
Sechrist failed a field sobriety test, and lab work was positive for the presence of THC.
She was charged with DUI, four summary offenses, and released.
In another case, at 3:45 p.m. on May 24, Eric Bower, 19, of 2401 Euclid Ave., South Williamsport, was arrested by state police after his 2016 Dodge Charger lost control at 4900 Elimsport Road in Washington Twp., initially going into a ditch on the left side of the roadway before crossing traffic and impacting a telephone poll.
Bower stated that he was trying to adjust his shorts when he lost control of his vehicle, further relating that had smoked marijuana an hour prior to the crash, police allege.
Bower admitted to police that he had two vape pens and a small amount of marijuana in the vehicle, according to court documents.
Bower failed a field sobriety test, and lab work was positive for the presence of THC.
He was charged with DUI, possession of marijuana, four summary offenses, waived his preliminary hearing, and was released on $2,500 bail.
In another case, at 1:30 a.m. on June 22, Melissa Lee, 29, of 140 Bittner Park Road, Trout Run, was stopped by state police at Fisher Street and Bald Eagle Alley in South Williamsport after they observed an inoperable passenger headlight on her 2021 Kia Forte.
Lee had glassy, bloodshot eyes, and an odor of alcohol was detected from the vehicle, police allege.
A 24 oz container of alcohol was in the center console cup holder, and Lee stated that she had drank it earlier after work, further relating that she had consumed only half a beer.
Lee failed a field sobriety test, and had a BAC of .08.
She was charged with DUI, a summary offense, waived her preliminary hearing, and was released on $5,000 bail.
In another case, at 3:30 p.m. on May 23, Charles Demarco, 29, of Emerson, N.J., was arrested after his 2017 Chevrolet Silverado was involved in a two vehicle crash at Middle and Schoolhouse roads.
Demarco had glassy, bloodshot eyes, and an odor of alcohol.
Demarco stated that he was leaving his sister’s house, where he had consumed three beers prior to driving, according to an affidavit.
Demarco failed a field sobriety test, and had a BAC of .08.
He was charged with DUI, a summary offense, waived his preliminary hearing, and was released on $1,500 bail.
In another case, at 8:30 p.m. on April 23, Richard Tyler, 25, of Northumberland, was arrested by South Williamsport Police after his 2013 Dodge Ram 1500 struck a utility pole at Brown and Riverside Drive in South Williamsport.
Tyler had glassy, bloodshot eyes, was unsteady on his feet, and had a strong odor of alcohol, police allege. Tyler also had heavily slurred speech.
Tyler stated that he had just come from The Valley Inn, but did not know how much he had to drink, according to court documents.
Tyler initially agreed to a field sobriety test, but stated he wanted to “pass” on the rest after completing one step.
Tyler told police he knows “how this goes,” relating that he had prior DUI arrests, according to an affidavit.
Tyler had a BAC of .25.
He was charged with DUI, waived his preliminary hearing, and was released on $5,000 bail.
