Dauphin County man sentenced to 2 years for sending inappropriate messages

Christopher Shuey, 39, of Harrisburg, was sentenced to two years probation for sending inappropriate text messages and images of a woman to one of her family members in the Jersey Shore area in early December 2022.

Shuey pleaded guilty to misdemeanor unlawful dissemination of an intimate image for sending the images.

Shuey made a “bad mistake,” and wasn’t thinking about the consequences of his actions and was truly remorseful, he told the court.

Embarrassment and shame were the themes expressed in a victim impact statement by the woman who received the images, read by President Judge Butts during the hearing.

The victim stressed her wish for Shuey to understand that he cannot contact her or her family ever again, according to Butts.

The letter also said Shuey was to be kept from threatening her future relationships or employment.

The statement said she could not believe someone “could stoop so low,” but unlike the other victim’s letter, this statement expressed interest in receiving a letter of apology from Shuey. The woman whose images were sent without her consent, explicitly said she had no interest in such a letter.

A condition outlined in the plea deal requires Shuey to receive mental health treatment for the duration of his probation, something Shuey said he is already receiving for anxiety and depression. Butts implored Shuey to continue to receive this treatment in order to get these issues under control, reducing the chance that he might act out of impulse in the future.

Shuey will be eligible for release after one year as long as he does not have any violations within that time.
