Lewisburg man charged with felony after allegedly taunting Williamsport police dog

After allegedly struggling with a Williamsport police officer in the 700 block of Second Street about noon on July 3, Quodrice Hendrix was forcibly placed in the back seat of a cruiser. In the same vehicle was Nico, a police dog, that was secured in his kennel, police said. A partition – with no window or screen – prevents the dog or anyone being transported in the cruiser from seeing one another, but the 33-year-old Hendrix could hear Nico barking and began taunting him by making barking sounds himself, it was alleged in an affidavit. After the officer warned him that it was a felony offense to taunt a police dog, “Hendrix continued to bark at him,” it was alleged in the court document. Hendrix, who ran from police earlier in the day, was first being detained and then taken into custody for repeatedly calling 911 for non-emergencies in a 10-minute period, police alleged. Hendrix, of Lewisburg, was arraigned before District Judge Aaron Biichle on charges of resisting arrest, taunting a police dog and disorderly conduct. He remains behind bars in the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $15,000 bail.
