Firehouse honors former Nisbet Fire Chief Richard Knar

PHIL HOLMES/Sun-Gazette A memorial wreath and black bunting hang on the front of the Nisbet firehouse following the death of former Nisbet Fire Chief Richard Knarr, who died Friday at the age 87. “He was a true public servant. He served his country and his community. He was my mentor,” Nisbet Fire Chief James Pfleegor said Sunday. A retired PP&L employee, Knarr served as fire chief from 1977 to 1993. Pfleegor has been chief ever since. A state fire warden, Knarr dedicated many years of service to the Tiadaghton Forest Fire Association. He also was active in the Lycoming County Fire Police Association until his retirement last year.
