Accused impaired Muncy driver allegedly so dehydrated no blood could be drawn

Driving a Dodge Ram pickup truck, Austin Tyler Mingle passed out in the northbound lane in the 1400 block of Route 220 in Muncy Township about 3:45 a.m. on Oct. 18, according to an affidavit filed by state police.

Troopers were called to the area to investigate a man asleep at the wheel with the truck’s engine still running, the court document stated.

In order to rouse the 27-year-old Mingle, the troopers were forced to break the front passenger window, police said. Once that was done, a trooper immediately turned off the ignition.

Mingle, of Turbotville, “was confused about his whereabouts and was struggling to explain where he was coming from. A slight odor of alcohol was detected in the vehicle and Mingle’s eyes were bloodshot,” it was stated in the affidavit.

After exiting the truck, Mingle admitted that he had consumed “three to four alcoholic drinks,” police said. During an abbreviated field sobriety test, he exhibited of “four indications of intoxication,” police said.

He was taken to the hospital to submit a blood sample, but no such sample was obtained “due to his severe dehydration,” police said in the court document.

Charged with DUI, possession of drug paraphernalia and one summary offense, Mingle has waived his preliminary hearing before District Judge Kirsten Gardner and is free on $2,500 bail.

Starting at $2.99/week.
