Fortune has announced that Wegmans is once again on the magazine’s “100 Best Companies to Work For” list, this year ranking No. 4. The family-owned supermarket chain, now marking its 100th anniversary, has appeared on the Fortune list for 19 consecutive years and is one of only 12 companies that have been on the list since every year since it began, according to a news release. Wegmans also is the highest ranked retailer.

“When our people feel cared about and respected, they turn around and make our customers feel that way too. A big thank you goes to our customers and employees, because together they make Wegmans a happy place to be,” CEO Danny Wegman said, according to the news release.

Creators of the methodology behind the list, Great Place to Work, have found thatemployees believe they work for great organizations when they consistently trust the people they work for, have pride in what they do and enjoy the people they work with, the news release said.

“Now more than ever, it is important for companies to prove they are great workplaces,” said Michael Bush, CEO of Great Place to Work. “Top talent expects as much as they seek new opportunities, and customers are demanding it as well as they decide where to spend their dollars.”

Fortune partners annually with Great Place to Work to conduct the most extensive employee survey in corporate America to identify the 100 Best Companies to Work For. Two-thirds of a company’s survey score is based on the results of the Trust Index Employee Survey, which is sent to a random sample of employees from each company, according to the news release. This survey asks questions related to employees’ attitudes about management’s credibility, overall job satisfaction, and camaraderie.

The other third is based on responses to the Culture Audit, which includes detailed questionnaires about pay and benefit programs and a series of open-ended questions about hiring practices, methods of internal communication, training, recognition programs and diversity efforts.

Wegmans Food Markets Inc. is an 88-store supermarket chain with stores in New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, Maryland, and Massachusetts. The family-owned company, recognized as an industry leader and innovator, is celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2016. Wegmans has been named one of the ‘100 Best Companies to Work For’ by Fortune magazine for 19 consecutive years, ranking No. 4 in 2016.
