Williamsport man charged with robbing a Loyalsock Township Puff’s outlet
Accused drug dealer Joseph E. Walter, of 1151 Meade St., has been charged with robbing Puff’s Express, 1349 Washington Blvd., in late November, according to state police.
Wearing a black sweatshirt and with his face covered, Walter walked into the Loyalsock Township business about 6:15 p.m. on Nov. 26 and demanded money from a clerk, police alleged in an affidavit.
“Ma’am, I need all the money in the cash register. I have a gun, and I’m not kidding,” Walter allegedly told the woman.
No weapon was seen, police said.
The robber bolted out the door with $284 and took off in a minivan, police said.
The entire holdup was recorded on video. Walter’s estranged wife identified him as the man who allegedly committed the hold up after seeing “multiple clips” taken from the video, court records stated.
Jailed in the Lycoming County Prison since early December on a parole violation as well as on charges of selling methamphetamine in DuBoistown, Walter “denied having anything to do” with the robbery when questioned at the jail by police.
“Walter said he had been off his suboxone for a couple of days, but he wasn’t so hard up for cash that he robbed Puff’s,” the affidavit stated. Suboxone is a drug to treat people addicted to opioids, such as heroin.
Walter’s wife was shown video clips of the robbery, police said. As soon as she saw the suspect in the video, “she began crying and said she was 100 percent sure it was Walter,” police said in the affidavit.
From the prison, he was arraigned Tuesday before District Judge William Solomon on felony robbery, terroristic threats, theft, possession of an instrument of crime and simple assault. He was recommitted in lieu of additional $50,000 bail.
