Lycoming County Prison population down

The average daily population at the Lycoming County Prison has decreased to an average of almost 250 down from a high in January of a little over 303, according to statistics reported by Warden Brad Shoemaker at this month’s Prison Board meeting. The average for the year is at 271.56.

The peak population by month has also gone down since the beginning of the year, with a high of 287 male and female inmates at the prison during January and the lowest recorded in August at 255.

In the bail/release program the total number of clients last month was 126.6. This included those on supervised bail, intensive supervised bail and supervised release for driving under suspension. There were no clients in the category of supervised release for domestics. All together, the three categories saved the county 3,925 bed days, Shoemaker reported.

The board acknowledged the retirement of Chief Firearms Instructor Lieutenant Harry Entz after 29 years of employment.

Following an executive session, the board approved the termination of Courtney Davis, a corrections officer at the prison.

The next meeting of the Prison Board will be at 8:30 a.m. Oct. 14 at the Commissioners’ Board Room, 1st floor Executive Plaza, 330 Pine St.

Starting at $2.99/week.
