Vendors, fireworks ready for City’s July 4th celebration

The City of Williamsport is set to celebrate the Fourth of July with the annual “Set the Night to Music Fireworks Celebration,” beginning at 3 p.m. on July 4, featuring music, food and 23 vendors, culminating with fireworks at 9:40 p.m., according to a news release from the city.

A 114 by 65 foot American flag will be raised by the state Army National Guard at 10 a.m. The National Guard are the custodians of the flag, which features four foot stars and 5 foot wide stripes. This is the 28th year of the flag flying over the city, stated the news release.

Mayor Derek Slaughter will lead the Pledge of Allegiance and the National Anthem will be sung by the group, “Achording to Dad,” the news release said.

Free shuttle service will be available every 10 minutes from city lots beginning at 6 p.m. The following streets will be closed from noon to 11 p.m.: William and Via Bella, William and Third, and Church and Pine.

The River Walk from Basin Street to Hepburn Street in Williamsport will be closed from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. The Market Street bridge will be closed to all traffic from 8:30 to 10:15 p.m.

Free parking will be available at the parking decks at Church and Third streets. The lower levels will be available for handicap accessible vehicles. There will be no parking on the roof levels, according to the news release.

Elevators to both garages will be shut down from 6 p.m. to midnight. Security will be patrolling both parking decks, keeping spectators off the roof levels, the news release said.

Entertainment begins at 3 p.m. with the Uptown Music Collective and continues in order of appearance with the Classic Thymes Band, Chamberlain Hill, Raising Kane, The Flipside and Lee and Kristen with Family Tradition.

No pets, rollerblades, skates or bicycles; and fireworks are permitted in the event area, according to the news release.
