Tax refunds granted for flood damaged properties
Due to flood damage from the tropical storm in August, several real estate tax refunds were approved by the Lycoming County Commissioners acting as the Board of Assessment Revisions.
A total of nine properties will receive refunds prorated for August to December. The refunds approved were: A&J Bower LLC, house and cabin that were destroyed, $92.62; Fisher Mining Company, trailer destroyed, $6.19; John and Kathleen Panatalone, Pine Township cabin was destroyed, $83.61; Jack Miller St., Pine Township cabin was destroyed, $53.38; Michael Warfel, cabin destroyed; $3.96; Ed and Jeanine Sampsell, Pine Township cabin destroyed, $52.70; Donald Hickernell, Pine Township cabin destroyed, $52.99; Brent Weber, Pine Township cabin destroyed, $25.66; and Sharon Welshans, trailer in Mifflin Township, destroyed, $130.45.
Unrelated to flooding, two commercial properties were granted refunds due to a court order as the result of a real estate appeal last year. They include a refund of $1,556.57 for Muncy Pharmacy DST; and Target Co., a refund of $14,750.21.
In other actions, the commissioners approved the following agenda items; a subrecipient agreement amendment with DuBoistown Borough for $177.664 in ARPA (American Rescue Plan Act) funds; a subrecipient agreement amendment with Tiadaghton Valley Municipal Authority for $250,000 in ARPA funds; the CDBG (Community Development Block Grant) 2021 budget revision and submission to the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development for a reallocation of funds; the PA DEP (Department of Environmental Protection) consent order to complete the Five-County Solid Waste Plan and a resolution to complete the plan; and the Agreement with Three + One pending final legal review, which has already been received.
The board voted to approve Emergency Watershed Protection (EWP) program sponsorship for Tropical Storm Debbie.
“We were just notified last minute that once again we are eligible to do assistance through NRCS (Natural Resources Conservation Services) for both technical and financial assistance for streambank restoration and rehabilitation,” said Mya Toon, the county’s director of financial management.
“This has been done at the prior storm events that we’ve had and it’s a great thing that we do to help local residents as well as businesses along the stream bank,” Toon added. .
Amber Marshall was approved as a full-time work crew foreman,union, at the Pre-Release Center at $21.74 per hour; and Awhbree Friday, full-time clerk IV in Human Resources at $15.75 per hour.
The next Commissioners Public Meeting will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 10, in the Commissioner’s Board Room, 3rd floor Third Street Plaza, 33 West Third St.
