East Lycoming School District names interim district leadership

During a recent work session, the East Lycoming School District board appointed Gerald McLaughlin as interim superintendent for the district and Jill Warg as interim principal at Joseph C. Ashkar Elementary School, both through June 30.

Both individuals came out of retirement to serve in these positions. McLaughlin will be paid $500 per day, pending receipt of required documents, and Warg will receive $300 per day, pending receipt of similar required documents.

McLaughlin served as the superintendent of the Loyalsock Township School District for 11 years, officially holding the position from July 2014 until his retirement last Sept. 30.

Prior to his tenure as superintendent, he served as the district’s business manager for nearly 14 years.

Then, from 2015 to 2024, Warg transitioned into school administration, taking on the role of elementary principal at both Ashkar and George A. Ferrell/Carl G. Renn Elementary schools. Warg formally retired on June 30, 2024.

The work session included motions to approve administrative leave for two employees pending the results of an investigation.
