James P. Shook
November 15, 1942 – April 24, 2026
James “Jim” P. Shook, 83, of Oneida Township, Huntingdon, went to be with the Lord peacefully, at his home, surrounded by loved ones on Friday, April 24, 2026. Born November 15, 1942 in Williamsport, PA, he was a son of the late Harold P. Shook and Doris Jane (Burkholder) York. He was united in marriage to the beloved and former Chris Ann (Robbins) Shook, who preceded him in death on November 2, 2023.
He is survived by four children, James P. Shook, Jr. and his long-time partner, Laurie Way, both of Huntingdon, Jay Shook and his wife, Dana (Ross) Shook, of Alexandria, Lonnie (Shook) Oliver and her husband, Bill Oliver, of Cambridge Springs, and Grant Shook of Huntingdon; grandchildren, Conner Shook and his wife, Leah (Dreibelbis) Shook, Jacob Oliver and his partner, Mary Sinan, and Keyariah Shook; and two great-granddaughters, Dani Shook and Lilah Shook. He was preceded in death in June 2023 by his eldest grandson, Cody Shook, who was married to Karlie (Travis) Shook. His family will miss him dearly as he was a loving father and grandfather who instilled a love of the outdoors in his family.
Mr. Shook graduated from Williamsport High School and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force on September 21, 1960. He was honorably discharged on May 26, 1961, having attained the rank of Airman Third Class.
Jim spent most of his adult career as a Wildlife Conservation Officer with the Pennsylvania Game Commission, where he retired in 1997 as Land Management Supervisor for the South-Central Region. He remains widely respected for his dedicated service to the Pennsylvania Game Commission.
Shook was a member of the Huntingdon Elks Lodge #976, the Huntingdon Moose Lodge #223, the Standing Stone VFW Post #1754, and the Nittany American Legion Post 245 of State College.
Jim was also a member of the Word of Life Fellowship located on Wesley Chapel Road, Huntingdon, PA.
In addition to his accomplishments, he was an avid hunter with a quick wit and a love for making others laugh. He brought joy to those around him and was a cherished friend and neighbor. He especially loved spending time with his wife and dogs at his camp in Kane, Pennsylvania.
A celebration of life service will be handled at the convenience of the family at a later date this summer.
