Restraint and professionalism
What concerned me about the Muncy Township supervisors’ meeting most was not disagreement, but the lack of de-escalation by individuals commonly viewed as part of the community’s safety structure. When tensions rise — particularly around an elderly resident — the expectation is that those in safety-oriented or public service roles help calm the situation, not contribute to it.
Instead, multiple individuals continued engaging a resident who appeared to be trying to leave. In moments like this, the responsibility should be to lower the temperature and allow space, especially when someone may be vulnerable. The public reasonably expects those associated with safety and community service to model restraint and professionalism.
This is not about differing views on development. It is about expectations for conduct. Regardless of opinion, all residents deserve to be treated with dignity, and de-escalation should always be the priority when emotions are high.
