Hepburn Lycoming major baseball advances to Section 3 championship game

After giving up two runs in the top of the first inning, Hepburn Lycoming buckled down and didn’t allow Berwick to do any more damage. Hepburn Lycoming went on to score 12 unanswered runs to defeat Berwick, 12-2, in four innings in the Section 3 major baseball winners’ bracket final on Saturday. The win advances Hepburn Lycoming to the Section 3 championship game on Monday at 5:30 p.m. in Athens against either Tri Valley or Berwick. Those two play Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m.

In the bottom of the third inning, Mason Hess sparked Hepburn Lycoming with a two-RBI single before DJ Harris had a two-RBI double to help the team go ahead, 6-2.

An inning later, Jaxson March had a single followed by an LJ Hill home run to add two runs. March then batted again later in the inning and had an RBI single to put the 10-run rule into effect.

March, Hill, Hess and Ethan Hugar all went 2 for 3. Harris and Connor Hofstrom both had doubles for Hepburn Lycoming.

On the mound, Hill went the distance and earned the win while March caught. Hill allowed just five hits and struck out eight.
