Central Mountain wrestling tops Scranton, Blue Mountain, Southern

The Central Mountain wrestling team put together a 3-0 performance Wednesday at Southern Columbia High School. The Wildcats defeated Scranton, Blue Mountain and Southern Columbia to complete the 3-0 sweep.
“We feel pretty fortunate to have found this competition and for Southern Columbia to invite us, to find something in the middle of the week against a tougher opponent is good. It’s going to help us out in terms of seeding with district duals coming up. Not necessarily our best effort–in the last match–in terms of being top to bottom,” Biff Walizer said following his team’s win.
CM opened up the night with a 66-6 win over Scranton. In total, the Wildcats accumulated 11 pins as Gino Serafini, Jacob Weaver, Lucas Porter, Damien Galentine, Micah Walizer, Brayden Blackwell, Clayton Foster, Derek Keen, Dalton Perry, Luke Simcox and Griffin Walizer all won via falls. After the opening match win over Scranton, CM went on to defeat Blue Mountain, 72-3.
The Wildcats’ most impressive performances was defeating a depleted Blue Mountain team behind nine pins. From Jacob Weaver’s pin at 160 to Gino Serafini’s at 152 to end the match, it was total domination from Central Mountain in round No. 2 of the SoCo scuffle. Damien Galentine recorded a fall in just nine seconds as the remaining were also all in the first period. Other winners by fall included Rocco Serafini, Brayden Blackwell, Dalton Perry, Luke Simcox, Taylor Weaver and Griffin Walizer. Both Micah Walizer and Leeah Eisenhower won via forfeit. Colin Seefeldt’s dec. win over CM’s Clayton Foster was the lone victory in the match for Blue Mountain.
To win the event, The Wildcats downed Southern Columbia, 39-24.
The match against Southern Columbia was competitive midway through as both traded forfeit victories. Gino Serafini picked up a monster victory over Louden Murphy at 152. Walizer said that’s what turned the tide.
“We were just still tight there at the end at 152 and Gino Serafini had to dig deep and get the take down there in the third period and he kind of sealed it up for us with that win. That’s a good win for Gino,” Walizer said.
Today the Wildcats are set to compete in the Ultimate Warrior Tournament at West Branch High School. Over 30 teams will be in attendance.
“It’s a tough tournament. Everybody is going to be tested, that’s what we want. We’re hoping to bring our best effort and have good results,” Walizer said. “At this point I think we’re as healthy as we’ve been, we feel pretty fortunate to be in that position at the end of February.”
