Keystone majors fall in Section 3 final; play rematch Saturday for title
Keystone fell in the championship game of the Section 3 tournament to Blue Mountain on Friday night, 8-1. The loss means Blue Mountain and Keystone play in the “if” game on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. in a winner-take-all championship game.
It will be the third meeting between Keystone and Blue Mountain. Keystone beat Blue Mountain in the winners’ bracket final before Keystone won the rematch Friday evening.
“They came out and we had some errors right out of the game. I think total we committed eight errors and only had four hits,” Keystone manager Ben Falls said. “We were flat and we just threw the ball around and they capitalized on some errors. I think my one pitcher gave up six runs and think two of them were earned.”
The one run scored by Keystone is its least amount of runs in a game so far this postseason. Falls believes that Keystone will rebound from the loss and play well Saturday, however.
“I think they’ll come out and we’ll be ready to go and we’ll be absolutely focused tomorrow and ready to play and tomorrow we’ll have to beat their best pitcher and they have to beat ours,” Falls said. “We hit the ball, some of hits were right at people. We had one of those games. For instance my son hit every time up, but it was right at them and they made the plays and we didn’t.”
As for expectations going in to Saturday’s final, Falls knows that his team will be focused in the winner-take-all contest.
“I think we’ll come out ready honestly. I got more of a complete team, but the older guys seem to hurt you on the Blue Mountain squad. They have a couple big kids. We went right at them and we kept them at bay where we wanted to just errors caught up to us,” Falls said. “Hopefully tomorrow’s a new day and the boys are re-focused. I think it’ll help them understand they can be beat and just play the game.”
