Harer cruises to Coal Cracker title at 145 with three tech fall wins on Day 2
When you step on the mat against Brandt Harer of Montgomery, you know you’re in for a tough contest. And you know Harer is going to score points.
A lot of them.
On Saturday at the Coal Cracker Invitational, Harer did just that. Harer dominated his three opponents on Saturday en route to winning the 145-pound title.
Harer opened the tournament on Day 1 with an 18-0, 47-second tech fall against Louis E. Dieruff’s Matthew Daboura. He followed with another tech fall, this time in 42 seconds, 18-0, against Greater Nanticoke’s Denick Tixi. And then came another win — again, a tech fall — against Chace Berry of Abington Heights, 15-0, 45 seconds.
On Day 2, it was more of the same.
Harer dominated his three opponents again. He had a 15-0, 34-second tech to start Saturday against Trent Croll of Northwestern Lehigh before a 17-2, 1:27 tech over Crestwood’s Micah Engelman. In the final, Harer had a 19-2 tech fall in 1:10 vs. Northwestern Lehigh’s Chase Sukanick to win the title.
Harer was one of two medalists for the Red Raiders as teammate Gage Oberheim finished with a fourth-place title at 114. In the championship semifinals, Oberheim fell to Hazleton’s Gage Benyo, 6-1. In the consolations, he bounced back with a 13-10 decision against Central Dauphin’s Franco Perri.
In the third-place final, Halifax’s Izaya Schickley won in a close contest by decision, 2-1. In the third period, Schickley went ahead by two points 38 seconds into the bout. Oberheim scored with 29 seconds to go, but couldn’t get a tying point or secure a win late.
