LHU softball extends win streak to nine straight

BLOOMSBURG — The red-hot Lock Haven softball team extended its win streak to nine games after sweeping Bloomsburg, 13-5 and 13-3 in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon on the road.

The Bald Eagles scored 26 runs on the day on 31 hits, while committing zero errors to Bloomsburg’s eight.

With the sweep, Lock Haven has now won 12 of its last 13 games, including eight wins in a row, to improve to 23-13 overall and 13-7 in the PSAC East. Lock Haven now leads the Eastern Division in victories with 13 and is just one game behind Kutztown in the loss column for sole possession of first place.

Bloomsburg falls to 20-12 on the season and 11-9 in the conference.

In game one, Bloomsburg built a 4-0 lead through three innings, but Lock Haven erupted for seven runs in the top of the fourth to take control of the game.

Evelyn Osborne (double), Hailey Irwin (double) and Madison Hardy all drove in multiple runs during the rally.

Lock Haven went on to score in every inning to close out the win, including a three-run top of the seventh to put the game out of reach.

Irwin (double), Hardy, Osborne (double), Montgomery graduate Faith Persing, Olivia LaMeau and Gianna Goodman all finished with multiple hits, while Hardy drove in a team-high three runs.

Persing limited the Huskies to one run in the final four innings of the contest.

In game two, Keiva Middleton went the distance in the circle and Lock Haven scored 12 runs over the final three innings to run away with a 13-3 victory and the sweep.

Middleton, who picked up her third straight victory, went seven innings and limited the Huskies to three runs on seven hits.

Bloomsburg led 4-3 heading into the top of the sixth inning, but Lock Haven rallied for six runs in the sixth before putting the game away with a four spot in the seventh.

Balestrini (2 for 5, three runs), Irwin (2 for 5, three runs, three RBIs) and Hardy (3 for 5, three runs, three RBIs) all homered to lead Lock Haven on offense.
